4/7/18. Who doesn't like a good ghost town, especially located in the middle of the Nevada desert. I came across this information while planning my trip, only things don't always go as planned.
Reville or I've also see it spelled Reveille, but I'm going with what the signs says, is located about 40 miles Northwest of the small town of Rachel. This was a mining town built in 1866 but by 1880 was almost deserted. There are stone foundations and a wooden cabin. There are two locations to explore, a main settlement along the road and the old town a mile further down the road which has some old mining equipment.
From the Little A'Le'Inn in Rachel turn left onto Hwy 375 North. After about 37 miles you will see a sign pointing to Reville. Take this dirt road on the left toward the mountains. We missed the turn and had to turn around so my photo is from the other direction. Here is where things get confusing. My directions said at 6.4 miles there is a fork in the road and the town is just past the fork. To get to the old town turn right at the fork and follow the road North, then West for 1.5 miles.
In reality we were utterly and completely lost. We found a fork in the road at 4.2 miles, went right. At 5.5 miles we stopped because we found some debris but it seemed to be a cattle corral, kept to the right and never found the town. Here are the GPS coordinates, supposedly, didn't help us at all. I would be interested if anyone has been there, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. N38 01.860' W116 10.200' Old town N38 02.080 W116 11.060'
We ran into a truck coming from the direction we were heading and asked the man about the ghost town. He said he worked for a mining company in the area and had never heard of it. Funny, he must see the sign when he goes to work every day. I smell a conspiracy out in the desert. What's really going on out here?
